It'd be nine years before the world saw Corpse Party again. On October 3rd, 2006, a retelling of the Corpse Party story was released for the mobile phone under the title Corpse Party: NewChapter. This new version would later be ported to the PC as Corpse Party: BloodCovered. Corpse Party: Sachiko no Renai Yuugi - Hysteric Birthday 2U. 2012-01-01 - 2014-01-01; Vol: 2 - Ch: 13; Corpse Party Cemetery 0: Kaibyaku no Ars Moriendi.
I had heard of Corpse Party for many years, but it was not until a buddy of mine bought it for me one Christmas on the Nintendo 3DS that I actually played it. I was pretty blown away by the story and how dark and scary things were. So if you are a fan of horror games, Corpse Party for the Nintendo 3DS is a game you have to check out.
It Is About The Kids
I think that it was the story of Corpse Party that really made this game click with me. I love Japanese horror movies that have been brought over to the west. The Ring, The Grudge and so on have always resonated with me and there is always something extra creepy about scary kids! The story of Corpse Party is that a group of school friends decides that they are going to do this ritual which will bind them together forever. It is rather sweet when you think about it. Of course, things go wrong and after an earthquake, they awaken in a messed up alternate reality inside a school where some serious stuff has gone down. There are spirits and evil children that want you dead and unless you find out what happened here, how certain characters died and who you really are. Your group of friends are never getting out. I think that Corpse Party does a great job early on in making you care about certain characters so that the stakes feel high.
What Kind Of Game Is This?
With its retro style graphics, you may be thinking that Corpse Party on the Nintendo 3DS is another JRPG. While I would certainly say that this is part JRPG. I would also say that it has a lot in common with old school adventure games, even some point and click adventure games too. The gameplay is a lot of fun and you will be doing a lot of exploring and talking to other characters. This is how you advance the story and also figure out what you are required to do.I have heard some people say that Corpse Party is very close to being a visual novel style game. I would not actually agree with that. While the story is the main focus of the game I do feel that there is more than enough from a gameplay point of view to keep you interested.
Think Before You Act
The way that I played Corpse Party and the way the story unfolded for me will most likely be different than what you experienced. This is because you are free to explore and talk to who you want. The choices that you make as you do will alter things. Some things can make very minor changes and others can have dire consequences for certain characters. The conclusion of the story and what the characters do can alter drastically depending on your actions in the game.
Corpse Party Game
Corpse Party for the Nintendo 3DS is a game that just hooked me. I loved the story, the gore and the way that what I did actually did matter. I was always worried that my actions were going to cause some horrific chain reaction. The game is certainly not for the faint of heart and it is far scarier than the retro style visuals suggest. I do think a little bit of frantic combat may have made the game even better. Still, Corpse Party is all about its story and this is one story that is well worth playing through if you love horror.
