Purpose/Goal: This exercise is centered around self-exploration and challenges participants to support one another’s stories and visions. The Beck Depression Inventory–II (BDI–II) quickly assesses depression in line with the depression criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders—Fourth Edition (DSM–IV–TR). It can be used for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of therapeutic progress in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) is widely used to screen for depression and to measure behavioral manifestations and severity of depression. The BDI can be used for ages 13 to 80. The inventory contains 21 self-report items which individuals complete using multiple choice response formats. The BDI takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Inventory II (BDI-II; Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996) are moderate cost, self-report scales of depression symptoms with a suicide item that outlines ratings one through four, from passive suicidal ideation to strong intent to commit suicide.
