In this guide we will show how to add a Swann DVR or NVR to the SwannView Plus app using the recorder’s UID (unique ID). This UID can be entered manually or by scanning the QR code of your recorder. Once you’ve added the device, you can see the cameras live or playback via your phone SwannView Link app.
You need to follow these steps to add the a Swann DVR or NVR to your phone:
- Install SwannView Plus in your phone
- Change the stream settings on your DVR or NVR
- Get the DVR’s network information
- Add the DVR or NVR to SwannView Plus app by using the QR code
How to add a Swann DVR or NVR on SwannView Plus app via QR code
Install SwannView Plus in your phone
You need the SwannView Plus app to view your cameras on the phone. To download the app, go to Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store and search for SwannView Link. Install it and run it on your phone.
Change the stream settings on your DVR or NVR
For smooth live streaming, it is highly suggested to use Substream when playing the videos. You will also need to adjust the substream’s bitrate to an appropriate level for the unit not to consume too much bandwidth. The bit rate depends on your internet’s speed for both the phone and the location where your security system is installed. You may need to play a little bit with various bitrate levels until you are satisfied.
- Go to Menu > Record.
- Proceed to Parameters > Substream.
- Pick a channel on Camera.
- Set the Video Quality to an appropriate bitrate. The better quality, the higher the bitrate and more slower
- on the phone. The lower bitrate, the worse the picture quality but it’s smoother on the phone. Find the right balance for your setup.
- Click on Copy to replicate the settings to other channels. A window will pop up. Tick all checkboxes to select all channels. Click on OK.
- Click on Apply to save the settings.
Get the DVR’s network information
In this section you’ll learn how to locate the UID of your Swann DVR/NVR (the so called QR code).
- Access the Main Menu and go to Configuration > Network > General.
- Check if Enable DHCP is checked. By default, it is checked meaning it is on DHCP.
- You can write the UID code for you to have your own copy in case you’re away from the unit. This code the unique ID of your recorder.
- Access the Main Menu and go to Configuration > Network > General.
Add the DVR or NVR to SwannView Plus app by using the QR code
- Tap the 3-bar icon located at the top left.
- Tap the third icon to go to Devices.
- Tap on the ‘+’ icon at the upper right.
- Enter the information it needs.
– Alias: name your system, for example: “My Home”.
– Register Mode: UID
– UID: Tap the QR code icon and scan the QR code on top of the unit.
– User Name: admin
– Password: type the password of your DVR or NVR - Tap on the save icon at the top right. If you got any error message, try rebooting the DVR or NVR and your router or modem. Close the app and open it again.

Swann DVR/NVR password reset using SwannView Plus software
To start the password reset procedure you need to connect your Swann DVR/NVR to a router or modem. Grab the Ethernet cable that came with the unit and connect one end to your DVR/NVR. Then connect the other end of the cable to your router or modem. The scheme is shown in the picture below.
Installing SwannView Plus or iVMS to your computer
We need to install the software in order to acquire the reset code and use that code to reset the password on your Swann DVR or NVR. The first step is to download the necessary software to your computer. Click the google drive link to download the latest version: SwannView Plus for Windows or iVMS-4200 (v2.5.1.7) for Mac.
When installing the software, you only need to select the Client module. The Client module is what you use to access the recorder and display images and footage. Make sure your computer is connected to the same router or modem where the DVR is. Once everything is done, open (run) the SwannView Plus or iVMS.

Acquire your recorder’s MAC address
Swann Plus App For Windows
On the main menu of the SwannView Plus, go to Device Management. If you cannot see this page, click on Tool > Device Management at the top instead.
Click Show Online Devices.
Select your DVR/NVR by clicking on it once. Check the software version of the DVR/NVR.
If the unit has firmware:

- Build 160801 or later: Take note of the MAC address and follow the next step.
- Build 160101 to above: MAC address first then follow the next step, if it fails Swann tech support line.
- Build before 160101: Cannot be reset, call Swann tech support line.
Reset the password
Go back to your DVR/NVR and pull up the login page again by accessing the Main Menu.
Type the MAC address you got from the software using lowercase, no dash, and no colons (for example bc51fe810d61). Click on OK once you’re done. The Swann DVR/NVR will then reboot and display the Activation page.
You are then required to create a new password of your choice. Please take note of the MAC address you got in case you need to reset the password again; and of course your new password too. Click on ok once you’re done resetting your Swann DVR/NVR.
